Red Ink is a community library that does a lot of communist and pro worker rights gatherings and aid. They have a guest speaker tonight so prime target for these assholes. Their Facebook just changed their status to closed so who knows if it's still happening.

The Nationalist Social Club has been targeting them for over a year now, staging a massive gathering and another time recently throwing a brick their window. The group has been active all over New England staging flash protests at certain locations like Red Ink or LGBT venues, calling for violence and murder of the people they oppose, then fleeing the area or state before they can be arrested.

Many of the older people don't care but if they did this then I guarantee the news, effects, and yes votes would circulate like wildfire with the under 40 crowd that are already increasingly politically active.

This isn't some small thing that would be easily swept under the rug with how bad people are already struggling to secure housing.

If people are forced into cramming in like that to have any housing or pay rent to begin with, they should be looking at that problem first.

Kicking people out with an ordinance change is going to fuck us all over hard. If they want to punish and prevent exploitative landlords, they can do it in a way that doesn't punish everyone else who actually live in PVD and are struggling to find non absurdly priced housing as is.

Important to speak against it if you can but it's unlikely to go anywhere. It's such an asinine bill that will only make the housing crisis in Providence worse and ultimately fix nothing.

Ordinarily NIMBY bills like this would have a chance but with housing the way it is, passing it would get whoever voted for it tarred and feathered.

Helen Anthony just doing dumb NIMBY shit again like she always does because boomers think housing with multiple college students isn't great to live near and we need to think of the poor property values in those areas.

For music at least theres a few options. I would def check out Dusk. They basically always have punk and the full spectrum of metal shows going on. AS220 and Askew also regularly have local punk acts and performance oddities and are especially popular with the queer community.

When people start caring enough to turn up to hearings.

Landlord and real estate investors show up to hearings on housing prices and development in large groups like clockwork and there's often only a very small handful of tenants that do, and even that's often done through a community activist group.

People are fine with bitching about things but they don't care enough to step up and do or say anything about it to the people that can change shit. Even if you physically can't attend, there's a lot people can do with outreach efforts on social media or just making a phone call/sending an email.

Not sure about Fish Co but I've been pat down off and on at clubs and venues over the last 6 months I'm assuming due to all the threats and mass shootings and what not. Could be similar reasoning or they had an incident that prompted it.

The post, despite obviously being some bias there, does make sense. Workplace drama and the commented claims about Ego fostering a work environment and clientele that allows for racism and transphobia. Ego was definitely not a welcoming place as a trans woman, even though I'm white, and can imagine the talent and such there every night saw and heard a lot worse.

The LGBT community as a whole has often struggled with this so the claims aren't exactly shocking.

It's the Nationalist Social Club, a neo Nazi group that operates heavily out of New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Their goons have been spreading recruitment flyers and doing stupid shit all over New England over the last year. Providence has had issues as of late with their flyers posted all over the place and they were the ones that formed a mob at Red Ink last year.

Bigots are feeling emboldened due to the political climate since 2016 and realizing that there aren't any consequences.

Groups like the Nationalist Social Club (who have been targeting Red Ink and posting their flyers all over Providence in the last year) literally just have people traveling around New England, posting their recruitment flyers, and stirring up trouble knowing they can get out of town before there's consequences.
