It used to be the same here in the UK. Recycling advice was to always sperate the cap from the bottle, as while the caps are made from a recyclable plastic, often they don't have the facility to recycle it.

And as its made from a different plastic to the bottle if you leave it attached then it makes the bottle much more difficult to process.

You'd hope that this is no longer a problem...

Sure it is, the FDA defines spices as:

> SPICES - General Definition - Aromatic vegetable substances, in the whole, broken, or ground form, whose significant function in food is seasoning rather than nutrition. They are true to name and from them no portion of any volatile oil or other flavoring principle has been removed.

Ginger is also in the same family as cardamom and turmeric, and those would both be considered as spices as well.

The craziest one has to be the Prince Philip Movement, where they believed that Prince Philip was divine.

Its to do with them seeing the amount of respect that was shown to Queen Elizabeth II, so therefore her husband must be even more powerful so they deified him.
