I mostly had a hard time with the Vaughn storyline and his wife. They just both seemed ridiculous to me.

That’s part of the messaging meant to shake confidence. That messaging had its peak when GWB was trying to introduce private accounts, back when SS was about to dip into those reserves. Lots of rhetoric about how those reserves didn’t exist, and why we therefore urgently needed those private accounts now.
The fund is very much real; its value is backed by the most stable investment that exists. It’s empty only in the same way that your “mortgage” or “rent” account is empty, if it is paid out of an account that other expenses come out of too.

If you remove the cap and remove the max payment, then that principle is retained, though, isn’t it?

Isn’t this the same as regular tit for tat when people don’t betray two rounds in a row? Just alternating betrayals, taking turns, until the end of time.

What on earth are you talking about with solipsism? I know what it means but I don’t know what you mean.

Reply to ChatGPT is on its way to becoming a virtual doctor, lawyer, and business analyst. Here's a list of advanced exams the AI bot has passed so far. by rationalworld
These headlines are so dumb. Those tests aren’t to test whether the information is correct; it’s the curriculum design and science process that does that. Those tests are to test whether the human has learned the material, to have confidence they are supplementing their human judgement responsibly. ChatGPT taking the test, bypassing the human judgement aspect entirely, completely misses the point.

Completely false and nonsensical, to the point that “not even wrong” applies. No vaccine ever was purported to “prevent” infection; instead, they reduce the probability, and lessen severity if you do catch it. Even the first vaccine still has efficacy along those lines. It’s true that efficacy is reduced after the first few weeks, but there is still plenty of benefit left over.

Watched the first episode, it feels like this plot happens and that plot happens and look more plot happens and why should I care. I’m surprised it has good reviews so far.
