"Reframe the job of police and provide adequate resources in the other broken areas of society so that untrained police aren't the first ones to the scene of a mental health crisis, who are a bit trigger happy because they were trained that everyone is out to kill them, or even better, provide adequate community investment and resources such that ideally both crime and mental health doesn't reach the point of crisis which requires police officers, at least less of the time if we are being realistic here" isn't as catchy of a slogan. You can't exactly chant that during a protest.

Could it have been said better? Sure. But more than half the country actively rejects any attempts at nuance, thinking that if you can't stop ALL school shootings, or have a vaccine that is 100% effective at preventing infections, that it isn't worth doing at all. It's hard to get people on board with your nuance when they only acknowledge binary thinking.

The no personal responsibility thing is so funny to me, because articles like this show demonstrably that societal changes can create massive differences in outcomes.

Differences in food culture, walkability, having more free time where you are interacting with the world, they all make significant differences in the outcome of healthy weight.

Sure, personal responsibility does matter, I lost 50 pounds when I needed to, but on a population level, forcing systemic change is far easier than just wishing people would be better. In Europe, people get exercise through the gym of life, here, we take our car from garage to parking lot because there aren't safe and comfortable sidewalks and bike paths. That difference matters.

People vent on twitter. Its what they do. I have said many times on reddit that it is dumb that Ben And Jerry's dairy free flavors contain all the nuts. If you are making an allergy friendly option, make it allergy friendly.

But I know I am shouting into the void, I know the world isn't going to bend to my whims or medical needs, but that isn't going to stop me from complaining that I don't even have allergy friendly "allergy friendly" ice cream. These people are the same. The decision of the food manufacturer is making their life worse. They can't enjoy the things they used to, they can't enjoy the things they could if for a simple change, often a marketing decision. It sucks that their life is worse, just let them vent.

Given that 85 million Americans are living with life threatening allergies and intolerances (according to FARE, the biggest food allergy research and advocacy organization, seems a bit high, designed to shock you, but whatever), it seems like 25% of your population having an issue that can cause death without good information is a societal problem.

As for whether adding sesame to the "Contains" list is "bending over", hell no. We already do it for 8 allergens, what is the big deal with adding a 9th?

And don't get me started on the number and extreme lengths I have to go to in order to accommodate society for my food allergies. The only issue is that I have kept them so well hidden that most people won't notice.

And people who meet the educational standards are more likely to be able to afford college, get scholarships, etc, not need GI bill benefits for healthcare, college, and homes, etc.

The benefits of the military are not as great when you already have the benefits.

I mean, I said that you shouldn't do paperwork in the bike lane, which is the same position as the "karen", but that doesn't seem like an extremist position to take. Don't stop in the middle of the highway to fill out your report, don't stop in the bike lane to fill out your report. Don't block traffic when you don't need to just because you are legally exempt from following traffic laws. Get somewhere safe and out of the way.
