I usually hit up both Plato’s and Uptown Cheapskate. Plato’s on Battlefield only allows two bags/boxes per day. I brought some brand new clothes to each, and only got around $10 for like 5 items altogether. Imho, if you have the time, you will get much more money on marketplace.

Yes, bc a minority of YIMBY homeowners and landowners offering space for homeless people solves everything. /s

Never mind the fact that so. many. people. are losing the opportunity to own land or a home as rent, housing prices, and interest rates skyrocket. It’s all just passing the buck instead of taking it on collectively and being responsible for the community and not just ourselves.

There’s a local writers group that’s also on Facebook called Making Pages. I am semi-active in that group myself, but have yet to attend an in-person meeting.

The Outland Ballroom offers an open mic night on Thursdays. It’s a bit of a mixed bag with that crowd, but there are often local poets there. Years ago, Big Momma’s on C Street had an open mic night that I attended regularly and enjoyed quite a bit. You could call to find out if they’re still doing that. Pagination used to host readings and poetry readings before the pandemic as well.

As for clubbing, I’d recommend Friends karaoke bar or Prime Time. And, traveling & exploring locally is also a great way to meet people! I’ve had luck making friends while skating, on walks with my dogs, and in the small businesses around here.

I’m a Drury graduate, and as someone that has sampled all the universities in the area with the exception of Evangel, it is a great place to get a degree.

I felt that I was receiving the best education the area could provide, with much smaller class sizes than MSU which allowed for a more collaborative relationship with instructors and professors. At MSU, I felt like a number or cattle being herded through. They weren’t prioritizing my success. My advisor was awful.

The MSU campus is beautiful with all the bells and whistles of a modern university, but most of Drury’s money actually goes toward education and the quality of education…. And it shows. When I first began searching for the right college, I overlooked Drury due to MSU’s presence in the area, but I wish I hadn’t because it would’ve saved me a lot of time and money.

Depends largely on your interests! Join a fun, local club/org like Springfield Shanty Choir or Springfield Roller Derby. There’s also the option of getting involved w a local nonprofit like Springfield Community Gardens or another org that has a large young demographic. Check out the Meetup app for local events specifically for what you’re wanting. Bars like Friends or Prime Time could also be a good spot to check out. Welcome back!

I believe you can still vote so long as you have an ID of some kind and are in the appropriate voting location. It’s called a “provisional” vote, meaning (and this where I might’ve misunderstood the people running the ballot booths) you can register there & as long as the information on the registration app matches the ID you provide, your vote will be counted and you should receive a voter ID some time after that. This is what I did for the primaries. Again, I might be wrong so please correct me if you know more details regarding provisional votes. This is how I voted in the primaries though.
