A pet isn’t an accessory. It’s a being you’re going to spend years living with. If you’re more focused on its looks than its personality, you’re setting the whole thing up for a bad time.
I have very little patience for people who treat animals like possessions and then don’t understand why their animals have bad behavior. This LPT is a recipe for some oblivious person to get, like, an apricot goldendoodle and then keep it in a crate all the time because they don’t know how to train it and it pees on their beautiful couch.

It’s spelled “dialogue” and yeah, I always felt the same way. It isn’t one of his strengths as an author (though I’m generally a big fan of his writing).
Dialogue is one of the hardest things to write well.
