Maybe more run of the mill employees having board seats and being compensated in stock along with cash would improve earnings disparity. CEOs would be less inclined to lay people off to protect the bottom line. Worker/shareholders have more incentive to increase profits, lower costs and to make sure they don’t lay people off.

Everything you said that’s great about it is true, but I just don’t get it. Like I get the overall commentary that corporate/work life is dystopian and soul sucking, but sometimes it just seems like it’s just being weird for the sake of being weird. I don’t understand some of the symbolism going on, like their job is just to look at a screen that has shapes. Is it just supposed to relate to the feeling that a lot of jobs are seemingly meaningless functions that don’t add real value to the world? Maybe I’m just dumb.

The not having a singular, overarching commentary or narrative is by design.

If you’re detached from the characters, that’s kinda on you. A lot of people like myself, we’re heartbroken for certain characters like Duquan, loved the triumph of others like Bubbles, wished the downfall of some like Marlo or Rawls, and ambivalent about other like Mayor Carcetti. Etc.

There’s things likable about some of the criminals, you just don’t like them. There’s not really a overarching plot to the seasons other than criminals deal drugs, cops try to stop them. There’s seasons where they focus on different aspects to that, the docks, the schools, the politicians, the media but it’s not a single narrative designed to make one singular commentary about crime and poverty in American society.

Any movie or show reboot or remake that has a woman or minority take the role previously played by a white male is viewed as woke and an attack on white men by right wing incel types. Even original content, often gets labeled as “woke” if the antagonist is a white man or the protagonist is a minority.

It’s not as common on this sub, but go to right wing subs. 4chan, Fox News, moviechat.org for right wingers bitching about movies/tv and linking them to “wokeness” “the great replacement” conspiracy theories.

It largely ignores that these media conglomerates are still run largely by white men, it’s just the content creators and the free market have responded to telling stories about women, POC and the LGBT community.
