Sonic was lit. Incredible graphics, even better music and sound, high pace, iconic design. Tell me a console game better in 1991.

Reply to What happens if it turns out that being human is not that difficult to duplicate in a machine? What if we're just ... well ... copyable? by RamaSchneider
We are definitely just biological computing machines! That wasn't really at question, if you consider the science. What is at question is how soon we can replicate that. Some would say we're close. I think we're a lot further than we assume, purely based on the complexity of the human brain's neural network vs. e.g. our best AI models.
Considering the "soul" or spirit irrelevant isn't really futurism. It's more like, existentialism or even nihilism, so we're talking 19th/20thC philosophy.

Reply to Three of the very biggest shows on right now (The Last of Us, The Mandalorian and Yellowstone) are western inspired by RusevReigns
I'd say that TLOU is less broadly "a western" than the particular setting of this part of the game/show leans into that. Though I would say the spare lawlessness of most American post-apocalyptic media finds Western tropes easy to appropriate.
What does it mean? Look out for Red Dead Redemption on premium streaming soon.

Technology has preserved more culture than it has destroyed. Identity? I don't see it. We're adapting to globalisation through the internet but otherwise I don't really see your point.

I am as worried about AI killing us as I am hopeful that it will randomly decide to cure cancer and all ailments. That is, not at all.

Heaps; get on Google Scholar and do some reading.

AI will definitely replace a bunch of jobs and they won't all be replaced.
That's why economic reforms are so important. In a system of free-market capitalism automation will only increase the wealth gaps and ingrain unemployment and poverty; in a better system the efficiency can mean improved lifestyles for all.

I'm of the opinion of you have the language to digest mature concepts and the patience to sit through literature about it, the additional exposure can only be positive.
These are bestsellers from an author of young adult fiction so it's not exactly subversive counterculture. I think the only limiting factor is the girl's own interest, and there's no harm in offering one to try. As an English teacher I can say that age is the ideal time to challenge a young reader to open up the boundaries of reading practice.

Personally yes, I think you should take a break until you've got your mental health and moods in order. It may be that competetive games aren't actually good for your personal vibe and that's fine.

Reply to [Discussion] Objectively speaking, I think I am just a failure and a waste of oxygen by StupidAustralianMan
"On the edge of losing the offer" is not losing the offer. The position you're in is not one of failure but catastrophic thinking; besides, even a setback like the one you've described can be surmounted.
Part of growing up is learning how to right the ship when thing go off course. Don't feel like you have to throw it all away. People do care about you, and want to see you succeed. You will succeed, if you're resilient: even if success ultimately looks different to how you imagined it.

I think you're underestimating how many active filmmakers literally grew up on this stuff. Even in the 80s and 90s they'd get frequent runs on cable TV (which was far less diverse than our modern media landscape).

In terms of discovery, missions to Europa could definitely be amongst the biggest in our solar system. But as a symbol of accomplishment, getting a human onto Mars and back would be far greater.

Reply to ELI5: "Grain Fed" vs "Grass Fed". Grain is the fruit of grass. by JessicaLain
Just because they're technically from the same plant does not mean they're identical. Just as eating an apple isn't the same thing as eating an apple leaf or the bark of an apple tree, grass and grains have different nutritional values, and affect the quality and flavour of the beef. It's not just marketing.
