Same here in the Netherlands, checks were barely used in the 1990s already and completely abolished in 2002. It's a peculiar US thing.

It's called a logarithmic or log scale

Putting these long titles diagonally is kinda the opposite of beautiful, very hard to read. Horizontal bars would've been a much better choice.
