I do see your point and because I listened to the audiobooks, I could let my mind wander around in some parts and then get back to the interesting bits as it comes along. So in that case, my experience with dune was more enjoyable and a bit biased.

I definitely want to watch the first version of the movie too. Its amazing to visualize the different interpretation of the same book.

Well, I don't recall Paul and chani having a conversation in the first book, unless you are talking about the dune series in totality.
