This is why I can't stand Mazz, but I understand why he does it. When he was the beat writer for the Red Sox while working for the Herald in the late 90's/early 00's, he was an occasional guest on Ordway's show on 'EEI, but eventually worked his way into regular appearances along with with other Herald, ProJo, and Ledger guys (Globe banned their writers from appearing on WEEI for a long time, not sure if they still do).

Massarotti was actually a kind and humble guy in the beginning of his radio career. He was a baseball encyclopedia and his opinions were always balanced and well-spoken. Then he started getting more aggressive with callers and his opinions (Ordway called this his Angry Tony persona), and it was clear he was taking advice to be more controversial to secure a more lucrative future in radio. Obviously he succeeded, hence why I understand his reason for acting like an asshole.

I do think it's an act, and that he's not as bad of a guy as he comes off as, but it comes at a price. I couldn't listen to him on Red Sox broadcasts because I just associated his awful radio persona with what I saw watching the team. I have no sympathy for Tony at this point, and I'd be fine with his career going in the direction of two other loser scumbags formerly at 'EEI, John Dennis and Gerry Callahan.

I grew up in MA, but my wife is from RI. We spend a lot of time in RI, and it occurred to me I had never had a hot wiener as we walked by Wally's in Newport one night last summer. We were with a group of 4 other people, so they insisted we go in to order a few.

I had two all the way and they were fucking delicious. Just perfectly balanced in every way. I can't believe I waited until my late 40's before trying one.

It’s a long time, but I can’t verify if it’s the longest in North American pro sports. It’s also interesting because it’s Gretzky, so yes. He’s considered to be the greatest player in the history of his sport, and he was traded in his prime. It’s an example of the impact he had on the NHL that trading a single player has a cause/effect lasting that long.

Brady didn't really go out of his way to help Jimmy G in NE. Brady was blindsided by the Pats drafting Garoppolo, and (somewhat rightfully) assumed that he was being asked to groom his own replacement. It was one of the many issues Brady had with BB. Eventually Belichick traded Garoppolo and got almost nothing in return for him. Lots of NE media speculated that Bill let him go for nothing as a big fuck you to Bob Kraft for meddling in football affairs.

If SF picks up Brady in hopes he'll take Purdy under his wing, I think they're going to be disappointed.

About 15 years ago, I became a regular at the Top of the Hub for a period of time. My friends would laugh at me for going up there because it was a tourist trap with overpriced drinks, but I eventually got to know a couple of the bartenders, and I never got anything watered down. They had great jazz bands up there, and obviously the view was incredible. I thought it was the best kept secret in town.

Eventually the Pru started charging money just to take the elevator up, and I just stopped going. It closed a few years ago, but I heard they're bringing in a new bar restaurant up there to replace it.
