sure, just like I'm interested in what's going on with that terrible car wreck over there.... but it doesn't rubbernecking is my passion. c'mon algorithms.

In the early days of the internet there was a certain charm about finding that one interesting little website after hours of following rabbit holes. Now everything is force fed right down your throat from the 3 or 4 social websites you use... I kinda miss the "holy shit check out this crazy site I found" days of the late 90s early 2000s. But such is the way of technology and convenience.

all of those things can be googled already.... i'm not sure having a chat bot recite them to you like you're getting a text from a friend will really help you do those things better/faster.
what it can do is take something relatively mundane, but unique/custom and synthesize it for you in a way that you can understand it better. like instead of reading a lengthy book on a subject, you can tell it to write you an executive summary of said book. That's something that you can't necessarily just google (unless someone else already wrote that summary for google to search).

Just wait until they put up the paywall, then it'll be a gatekept tech only available for those willing to pony up.

Greg Egan's Diaspora is kinda like this. And as far as man's "final form" his Permutation City is another interesting take.

If we could upload our consciousness to the cloud - it'd be a lot cheaper/easier to send a harddrive through space, than a human body with all the necessary life support mechanisms. But then again, if we could do that, there'd be no point in really leaving earth.

I struggle to imagine a world where people/companies/whoever are just gonna take their land and turn it back over to the wilderness. But it is a nice thought.

at least on tiktok I 100% quickly skip past videos that I know might be interesting, I just don't want to see more of them for the next hour.
a good algorithm is like a banzai tree... need to perpetually prune it into shape.
