I don’t have garbage trucks in my town. You pay per bag at the transfer station.

Overlay the price of natural gas.
Also, isn’t most of the electric companies finally upgrading transmission after several years of wildfires started by ignoring deteriorating infrastructure?

The quality of my meal bears no relation to what I tip. It turns out waiters and waitresses don’t make the food or set the prices. Shockingly have no say in the products that are being offered. Short changing them because you feel slighted by thing’s completely outside of their control is frankly dickish.

Most small towns (<1000) are almost entirely poor. Unless they’re on the coast. Then during the summer, rich snow birds live on the waterfront. There is more of a divide between those who actually live in Maine, and those that treat it as a plaything.

The only thing resembling off road is going to be an old logging road. There isn’t much for “trails” except for ATV routes and those are not legal to take a motor vehicle on. You could try Stud Mill and see what you can find, but the weather is supposed to warm and tearing up the roads while it’s muddy isn’t exactly good stewardship.
I’ve always used this for finding off beaten paths. it includes washouts and gates which is helpful.

I don’t think people understand how much of NEPOOL is gas generation. Or in periods of high demand: more expensive oil.

Calais is closer to the ocean but it’s not huge and if the city ever draws your fancy, the drive to even Bangor is a trek. Some stores on both sides of the border. Even a movie theatre. Coastal also means less snow. Which is either an advantage or detriment depending on your fancy.
I’m originally from Washington county, and love it, but it does have some issues. As others have mentioned opiates are the ugly one. Unfortunately that has resulted in a corresponding jump in the homicide rate which I don’t think anyone else has mentioned.

Probably because we don’t clear trees back as far as we should. Heavy wet snow, even a mild storm, is going to fell some trees.

I hate Trump.
I think you’re forgetting that Trump won the 2nd congressional district. Twice. He won most poor rural counties in the US. Candidates like Trump will continue to win those areas.

Depends on the wage. Minimum: probably still tip but less. More than minimum? Not at all.
