Location would be helpful.
In the Upper Valley there’s Scout in White River Junction. They’re great, but also v. popular and they’re booked like 2-3 months out.

Currently pregnant and see a different OB every appointment at DHMC. I guess this is the norm now? But there’s absolutely zero continuity of care, and I often feel pretty rushed.

I would say you’ll be generally fine with that budget, it’s just gonna take some patience and luck. Godspeed!

Moved here 2.5 years ago (mid-pandemic, pre-vaccine) rented for about the first two years and bought last year— it’s been slim pickings since we moved here. Purely anecdotal, just from my observations, but it seems like the prices are getting better, but the supply is abysmal.
But as another commenter pointed out, hard to give any more insight without a budget or an idea of towns you’re looking at.

Upper Valley reporting— dirt roads are pretty damn slick and then super bumpy when things freeze. It’s unpleasant!

Since you’re going to WRJ, you could drive through Quechee— there are some touristy shops there.

Reply to seeking advice to buy a home! by thelizards219802
We sent a letter to the seller only after making our offer. There was almost no inventory in the town we were living in, and so this was pretty much the only house in our budget that wasn’t falling apart. I do think it may have swayed the seller a little— I’m a pastor in a small town who was determined to stay in said small town, which made for even slimmer pickings than your average homebuyer; and so I was probably a much more sympathetic buyer than someone trying to buy a second home or an “investment property” ugh.
Anyway, I dunno. It’s rough out there.
ETA: I moved up here from Philly (though I’m originally from New England) where there were TONS of postcards and letters being sent to homes offering to buy— more often than not they were super predatory, trying to screw struggling Black families over so they could flip their house. It’s obviously(?) different here, but it would put a real gross taste in my mouth if I got a letter or a postcard like that randomly 🤷🏼♀️

Harpoon in Windsor; Hartland Diner; White River Junction has several good restaurants and cafes. Woodstock itself has the Billings Farm & Museum, but otherwise, IMO, Woodstock is very picturesque and precious, but there's not much to do.

Reply to Hi everyone, my wife and I would like to spend a few days in Vermont this summer. We have a baby and a dog. A friend has told us that Woodstock would be a great place to spend a few days. Thoughts or other suggestions? TIA! by whey_dhey1026
I find Woodstock itself a little too precious and a little sterile, but if you're going for touristy, quaint Vermont you're good. And there's plenty to explore in the general area around Woodstock.
