Did you get a Mr. Cool brand heat pump? Because those are garbage. Had a friend that bought one online from Mr. Cool, and it just ran like crazy, power bill went way up and then it died.
We have two Daikin pumps and they work great. 3100 sq ft house is heated well, we have a oil boiler we really use for hot water now. Its only been a few weeks, but they have handled the cold well.
We've got solar so we banked tons of credit last summer, so our CMP bill is steady at $13.73/month every month.

Most of them you kinda just walk around, look at them and take a picture. Many are at very scenic places, so you know, you walk around and take a picture. Maybe bring a lunch and sit and eat your lunch while you look at the lighthouse.
There may be special days when you can go inside/up some of them, but not really. There are some that have little museums attached. Some are on islands, so unless you have a boat, you can't go there.
I can't believe I'm explaining how to go to a lighthouse to someone.
There's more to Maine than lighthouses. Like towns, and other shit to go look at. Check out some blogs on Maine tourism ideas, not hard to find.
Edit: I vaguely recall going up to the top of the Owls Head light, but that's not a very tall lighthouse at all.

They bring in their own people from away for the good paying mining jobs, you know, people that are already trained and specialized in the industry. They aren't going to train a bunch of people from Union or Warren to do specialized mining jobs like explosives engineering for blasting for example.
At the town meeting they came to they said the jobs that would be provided would be cooks, cleaners, a few drivers, and nurses for all the miners that get injured. Someone pointed out that the area is already suffering a lack of cooks, cleaners and all sorts of health care professionals.

I've been there twice and very much enjoyed it, its a great spot. Doesn't change the fact they are re-doing the concept.
From their Instagram:
> "So about that big announcement. wolfpeach as you all know it will end on Feb 27. It’s been an incredible journey, but this stage of it is at a close. We want to refresh and refocus, to ensure that our goals are still in line with what we’d originally set out to do - build a community restaurant, and to HAVE FUN. So we will be taking the month of March off and reopening in April as something brand spanking new!! We are so so excited and can’t wait to share more details. Come help us send wolfpeach as we know it out with a bang. "

I'm all for things like more housing being built, more local industry, and yes, I would be fine with multi-unit housing units going in across the street from me, or next door. My road has trucking companies on it, car repair lots, multi-family housing, a waterproofing company, multiple commercial farms, all of that. Its fine. Great.
What am I not happy about? Having my water supply potentially poisoned forever if there is a big spill. This mine would be a drop in the bucket for global nickel production and will serve nothing more than to line the pockets of foreign mining corporations who will promptly fuck off and never come back here again. The St. George River is a wonderful natural resource that deserves to be protected. If blocking mining here causes your smartphone price to go up by 1/100th of a cent, then so be it.
If caring about the environment and local farmers and yes, my ability to live on my property and grow a garden to feed myself and my family is NIMBYism, then so be it.

I've left my car for a few days at the $2/day lot, which is right at the end of the platform. I wouldn't leave anything sitting out visible in the car, and I imagine you would be fine. Its not a high-crime area by any means.

Big sigh...
You got kids? How old are you? Single? If so, are you going to be looking to date people wherever you move?
You planning on renting? You planning on buying a place? What's your expected budget?
Do you want a condo with zero maintenance? Do you want an old farmhouse with a bunch of land? Something in between?
Does walkability matter to you? That is, do you "need" to be able to walk to stores/restaurants/bars etc or are you okay with (much more likely) not being able to do so?
The four counties you describe are where a majority (I'm guessing, could be wrong) of the population of Maine lives, so there's a fair amount of towns that fit there. You will get better info if you give better info. Not trying to be a dick, but vague questions get vague answers.
> about a 90 minute drive from either mountains or a beach.
Basically everywhere you listed is within 90 minutes of the coast. Most of them will be within 90-120 minutes of Sunday River for skiing, closer if you want just any old mountain.
>I would assume that any town recommended would have any fun city/town stuff
You would be incorrect in assuming this. There are lots of towns that don't have much fun stuff, or very limited amounts of fun stuff, and you have to drive to another town for a bit of variety in fun stuff. The only 'real' city in Maine is Portland. There are nice towns, but they aren't cities. (and before anyone says, "AKSHULLY- Lewiston/Bangor/whatever is officially a city, okay?"- no, they are large towns. Maybe legally they are incorporated as cities, but they're not really cities.)

I went to karoake in Searsmont this past Friday night at Threshers Brewery. They actually had a good crowd in there. They do it once a week.
Also, the Newcastle Public House does karaoke once a week. Those are the only ones I know of in the Midcoast region.

I have a pair of Sorel waterproof boots for snow that I like.
You might want to invest in a pair of Muck Boots as they are good for the mud season when everything melts. Basically you are going to want a pair of warm warm boots for snow, and a pair of waterproof boots that aren't as warm (but can still be insulated) for when things get sloppy.

Reply to comment by DifferenceMore5431 in After how many days is my house guest a tenant in Maine? by [deleted]
There are jurisdictions that define tenancy based on the amount of days that someone has stayed on your property, irrespective of a lease or payments. OP should contact a lawyer to ensure that this is not a tenancy situation. If it is deemed to be a Tenancy At Will, then a 30 day eviction notice is the quickest. OP should not dispose of any items owned by their sister, nor change the locks without a separate compelling reason, at least until they are able to get a consultation from a lawyer.

California native here- out there, everything can be a dude. Your dog, your car, your toaster oven, your washing machine, random drivers on the road, your spouse, your kid. All are potential dudes.
Example: Toaster oven just turns off right after starting, wont start up: "Dude, I just want to heat up my hot pocket! WTF?"
Someone doesn't have a stop sign but stops anyways and tries to get you to go when you do have a stop sign: "Dude, you don't even have a stop sign, just go already!"

I thought I had seen some kooky takes on the housing crisis, but "Eliminating all building regulations to allow homeless people to build their own log cabins will solve homelessness" is a new one. Bravo!
And anytime someone says, "The solution is simple" to a complex problem is when I stop listening.

Publicly shaming people that are expressing their opinion peacefully at a municipal meeting is not the way to win them over to your cause. I certainly may not agree with their NIMBYism, but I will defend their right to express their opinions. If I want to disagree, that's what my three minutes at the microphone are for.
