I remember before there was a No Turn on Red sign there, maybe like 8 years ago. I assume they put it in for the Poly students, before they redesigned that whole little stretch of Falls north of Cold Spring.

Reply to Pool halls in Baltimore? by whatugonnadowhenthey
Just to add one no one else has mentioned yet, Brews and Cues in Glen Burnie. As others have said, you won't find a pool hall in the city proper, just bars here and there with a table or two.

Your post offers almost no specifics actually. If I had a week in Baltimore in May 2023, I'd go see the Orioles play at Camden Yards (assuming they're in town and assuming you like baseball), I'd go to AVAM, the BMA and the Walters (assuming you're at all interested in art), I'd walk around the zoo, aquarium and/or Ft. McHenry (assuming you're ambulatory* and interested in animals or history), I'd go bet on some horse racing at Pimlico (assuming you're in any way interested in a sport that rightly turns huge numbers of people off and watching it at a track that's needed a renvo. since the '80s [btw, if it's Preakness weekend, go to the Black Eyed Susan on Friday, not the actual Preakness]), I'd go see an indie flick at the Charles or the Parkway or the Senator or one of the other theaters around town (assuming you like movies), I'd go see a band at the Ottobar or the Metro Gallery or somewhere like that (assuming you like music [see: https://baltshowplace.tumblr.com/]) and then, I don't know, shopping and food in Fells Point, Fed Hill, Canton, Hampden, Mt. Vernon, I don't go out enough to care anymore and there's a post every other day about not-to-miss restaurants, etc. For me, not to miss would be La Cuchara, the Charleston and the Helmand.**
*No, you don't have to actually be ambulatory to go to these places.
**Cue someone telling me why one of these three places fucking suck now.

Man, I've been waiting for someone to ask what to do as an out-of-towner visiting Baltimore.

Good, solid writing, just laid on a bit thick. Wouldn't have guessed McCarthy from that sample. Time to read some Denis Johnson if you haven't, though I suspect you have. There's some hints of Resuscitation of a Hanged Man, etc. in there.

Jay McInerney or Nick Flynn or whoever you've been reading recently would like a word.
