It is oral in origin though, the oral tradition of passing down stories relied heavily on song, that's what songs were, stories. That doesn't mean that we have to tie all music to stories today but that's where its roots lie. But like you say, it's all down to what each person takes from it, and today's music has come a long way from intergenerational story-telling.

You want the earlier, acoustic version from Wednesday Morning 3am without drums.

Came here to say this. As the dates approached they regretted committing themselves to rehearsing their entire back catalogue but it was too late!

Bloody layabout royals slouching around on golden chairs drooling globs of swan over priceless artworks and printing bibles with impunity. Up against the wall with them.

Gary Glitter's Rock and Roll, Parts 1 and 2 were 50 years old this year. Not as big as Thriller obviously, but still a noteworthy half-centenary. You don't hear much about Glitter these days, I guess people struggle to separate the artist from the music.

What would be a good, up-to-date layman's definition of a species.

This is it. The ability to have viable offspring is the definition of a species.

Reply to comment by chinese_in_law in TIL that Walt Disney World began as "The Florida Project". Dummy corporations were used, by Walt Disney Productions, to buy up 27,000 acres of land to avoid bursts of land speculation in the Orlando area. Early rumors assumed possible development by NASA, Ford, the Rockefellers, and Howard Hughes. by jdward01
Me neither. Such a good film, Willem Dafoe is brilliant in it. I was sure it was going to do well at the Oscars that year but it fell by the wayside.
