They are damn wicked on a tube amp too. These are the headphones that melt off my head the most

Welcome to the black hole that is this hobby. Kidding aside, 6XX is basically the best value for performance in this world. I started big and finally got a 6XX for reference and I have to say, even not considering the price, they sound right on. Plus a good amp and some EQ, congrats to you

If you want, save up for a simple tube amp. They tend to up the holographic quality and instrument separation noticeably. Especially on high bit rate sources, OST, jazz, classical, binaural, etc…. My rig is iBasso DAP —> Schitt Lokius (typically set to +5 dB bass shelf and - 4 dB near 6k, but it’s nice to be able to reach out and just twist to flavor on the fly) —> schitt Valhalla II (High gain).
I got the Dekoni hybrid elite pads and I won’t go back. They couple better to my head, adding a bit of bass (maybe 2 dB), attenuates the 6k peak a bit (1-2 dB), widens the stage L/R but squeezes it a bit U/D and F/B.
I honestly can’t image better results with out shelling out many thousands more on gear, near perfect for me

That’s the beauty of owning several cans. I love throwing on the LCD-X for a couple hours here and there to get that primo bass and slam, but they come right off and I can swap over to the HD800S. If I’m traveling or at the office, it’s my two closed backs (Celestee and Aeon 2C). But rotating through always keeps thing fresh and keeps me from buying something too crazy (cough Susvara, cough cough 1266 TC)

Rocking set of cans my friend! Glad you enjoy them. They present bass register so damn well. For rock, electronic, and anything that has a hefty bottom end, these are endgame for the price. Weight wise, they do begin to wear in you in time. I typically like laying while listening to music and that easily halves the apparent weight. But they are always a joy to throw on when I want that visceral experience. Enjoy them!

I could never have just one, but if I had to it’s the Aeon II closed for work and on the go. My second is HD800S but that’s usually just for my desk setup

I like your description of the bass technicalities. Not the punch of Focal (never tried HE6). But the texture and tightness is on another level. Even my Celestee punch harder than my Audeze, like a jack hammer, but they can’t hold a candle to the sub-bass extension, instrument separation, and timbre down there.

They always say that they "aren't being paid or influenced to say anything good or bad about this product" but they know as well as us that it's all hype cycle. They are paid for views, and people view what is new. That's what keeps the lights on for these reviewers. And I don't blame them. I also appreciate their honesty usually, but I know this is all just consumerism.

I’ve heard the APM spatial audio which is neat. But unfortunately the sound quality there just doesn’t do it. I’ve heard of an amazing product called the Realiser A16. It apparently renders 16 channel audio virtually with a HRTF and RRTF added. I really want to to try this but here is the demo video I saw that gives you a taste

I had a lot of luck with Dekoni elite hybrid pads on HD800S. Soundstage widens L/R a bit but seems narrower F/B. Bass has a bit of a bump. Comfort is improved IMO. And it couples better to the head. Overall I liked the mod

Just picked up this deal. I had the HD650 for a few days a year ago but I opted for the HD800S. I grabbed these because they are ALWAYS compared to other headphones, so getting used to them will help me understand other sets hopefully. That and I have an audio addiction problem and I think it may be incurable

That sounds fantastic! So it can theoretically bridge the tonal gap between any monitor and headphone? That must sound amazing with the HD800S

Just out of curiosity, what does the A16 do for the staging and imaging? I’m trying to read this product page but it doesn’t make much sense

It's a lot of things honestly. The most obvious is the ability to completely get lost in a musical space. My belief is that the best gear gets out of the way and you forget you have the headphones on. I have a setup that can more or less do this. This is why I stopped (for now at least) climbing deeper into this money-pit hobby. But I do still enjoy nerding out in forums like these and also learning as much as I can about what technologies lend to the best possible acoustic experience.
