Reply to Asking here and not on an artist subreddit because you guys are non-artists who love AI and I don't want to get coddled. Genuinely, is there any point in continuing to make art when everything artists could ever do will be fundamentally replaceable in a few years? by [deleted]
No, it’s not like AI just dreams up art, it’s just a tool. Any real artist would pick up on this and start to learn to leverage it for gain. And, hand created art will just move into a more niche, and possibly more profitable arena. Supply and demand.
In fact, many think tanks think, AGI will bring about UBI, which will intern free people up to follow creative passions. Which would mean more art available.

People can see it coming now, we’re crossing the tipping point from “vapor ware” to adopted reality. It’s great, shows curiosity is still alive and well.

Fuck yes, that’s a risk worth the potential outcome. I’m gonna die anyways, why not, could be cool. Considering we are nothing more than a collection of experiences that we assign positive or negative value to. The rest is just breeding science

You are correct higher ed is rated as one of life’s biggest expenses. I was more focusing on the things we purchase to lie about our success to others. Well, now that I think about it, college falls into that as well… so yeah, why not.

Small, and trapped!! I’ve been fortunate enough to have seen a lot of this world. I’m 50 now, hoping for some consciousness swap in 40-50. Then maybe another world. Oh to dream!

I get that people are excited /scared about AI, but real full adoption won’t be for 20-30 years. There will be Govt intervention, early, mid and late adoption cycles. There also needs to be a component of trust built. Live your life today, but keep the knowledge of tomorrow.

You realistically have 10-20 yrs. There are gonna be several years adoption. Plus inevitable Govt intervention (3-5 there alone). Yeah, if your early in your career, be prepared to adopt change. I’m 50 and just getting into Cybersecurity. And I accept that it only gonna last like 10-15 yrs.

Whether it’s global warming or the impending threat of AGI. What’s scary is the Inbetween! Millennials and Z, and some extent X, will be a generation of In-betweeners. By this I mean, less employment, growing population and a society ill prepared for the social issues advancement will make. It will take many many years for a solid livable assured income. And in that time “between” there will unfortunately be a lot of pain and suffering that will in turn require a time of recovery. In the end, we continue on, reach for the stars (I mean space!! Fuck your dreams) and as humans pull off one of our greatest feats!! We forget, time is just a construct.

How is it any different from now. I understand your point philosophically. But the control and flow of information has always been the keystone to power and wealth. So to answer your question…nothing
