Were they self published? I would assume so since that's a niche genre. That could be part of why it lacked polish.

You are fighting an uphill battle cause Frankenstein is not a sympathetic character. I would argue that by pinning all of the blame on doctor Frankenstein they are ignoring the personhood and agency of the monster and he is not a puppet but rather a person with a personality and humanity that needs to be acknowledged and respected in the proceedings. It’s a twisted take, but I’m not sure your accusers will be able to counter that so quickly.

Racists make a similar argument that they may say something racist but it not like they are burning crosses. It’s bigoted simpleton gaslighting.

I don't care about design unless it's detrimental to my ability to read the book, then I care and I am not pleased. I'm surprised the publisher allowed such changes which seem to conflict with accessibility standards. Issues like the typeface and lack of contrast between background color and the text opens up the publisher to problems should someone decide to sue. But, they must not care, or don't know about the importance of accessibility and just wanted to please the author. :|

I think that is something you are going to have to answer for yourself. It could be a combination of internalized misogyny and poor writing of female characters. If you can't connect with them in some way, that makes it harder to like them.
Personally, I when I was younger I was definitely a tomboy and considered my more masculine qualities to be better than my feminine ones. At times in my life that's changed and, now that I think of it, I enjoyed those times of embracing my feminine side. Maybe you have a strong masculine side to your personality that you are more comfortable with. It's ok, but just keep in mind that you should still give female protagonists a chance in the future. You may not feel like this forever.

Seems like a bit of promotional piece for this company as the CEO goes on at length about how much they care about privacy and ethics. I don’t believe him at all.

Oh wow, I should reread this too! I totally didn’t get anything out of it when I was younger, but I’m sure I will now. Thanks for this post!

I think the first two are pretty good and worth it, but the third and fourth were harder for me to get through. I'd take it book by book to see how committed you feel. My husband has most of the books and we are both reading through them at this point. I think it's intimidating because each book is a big commitment and can burn you out. I've heard from some that they enjoyed the audiobooks.

Ugh, I'm so sorry. This happens to me with some books I read a few chapters of and then put down for a while. So far, I've been able to retain a lot from the four books I've read, but I expect I will be reading Wikipedia summaries to refresh myself at some point. haha

I only know the book I’m reading at present, my next book and the book after that. I have a list of books to read and fill it in as I want, then pull from that list when it’s time to queue myself up for a replacement. I am also reading the wheel of time series so I’m reading other books in between WoT books as a palette cleanser. So this method works well for me.

AI is a potential cash windfall for tech, they will try to cram it in everywhere. They are definitely riding the hype as long as they can. I am weary at this point.
