I heat mine on a comal before I fill them. A cast iron would probably work well too. I don't use oil either, just heat them straight from the bag

If you decide to make it, it's important to choose a good dashi. That's where it gets a lot of its flavor from. Or you could always make your own

I got it from my mother, who got it from her mother. I didn't really make it with measurements. I cooked and seasoned it by taste
