I feel like a hard take off would not go well for humanity. We need to be able to adapt to a higher intelligence or else it’s paper clips for everyone. Inevitably things will move fast but we need to find ways to adapt. There are gonna be some pretty heavy challenges to overcome for an enjoyable singularity.

Possibly, but I think that you need “pillars” to support the “building” were trying to make. If we never optimized smart phone cameras and the internet I don’t think we would have the proper infrastructure to train our current AI models.

When you say a long time, what timeframe are you talking about? Often people say the times have changed quite A lot, would you say that they are exaggerating and in what ways?

I can see why resources would be a concern if our current capabilities and far as energy and infrastructure don’t match our ability to sustain near immortal population.

But given our current rate of progress I’d say issues like that can be dealt with in way less than 100 years, let’s see what happens.

It depends on how complex the universe actually is and how capable a complex thinking system can become. Hopefully we will see what is possible
