Dogs are pretty hard to top.
My dogs help keep me in shape by joining me on walks. Their snuffling noses bring tranquility to my soul. They also sense when I'm down and snuggle up next to me.
You can roughhouse with a dog. Not so much a cat.
Dogs are very protective of their friends.
My dogs wake me up with kisses and excitement. My sister's cat woke me up by shoving its ass in my face.
Dogs lend their name to a delicious cheap American food. Nobody would eat a hot cat.

You imagine Doc had an Edsel in the 50s? Same general story, car of the future that wound up sucking ass.

Go watch Doc Brown Saves The World, I'm sure it's been clipped on YouTube by now.

There's already a bonus DVD feature where Doc has to change 2015 because it's going to destroy the world or something
Though I guess that means he's lost access to Mr. Fusion?

I recall reading Discworld and there being a vampire character who had to make do with a full swarm because the law of conservation of mass wasn't going to budge
I don't recall it happening in film before the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen adaptation

Well.. I like the Jeepers Creepers franchise, and I think the monster antagonist is fairly interesting. But this franchise is... well... not as fondly regarded as Alien or Predator.
