Yeah. Like a chimney or support structure in the basement. The fact that they are near the door makes me thing they were tossed out after a home renovation.
Load bearing structures being removed could be the reason for the visit. It may take a while for the engineering issue to arise.
Not that I understand engineering. I’ve just done dumb stuff before.

My town has one too. We use it for short community meetings (Boy Scouts, parent school groups etc.). Everyone buys coffee and a snack. I’m sure it pays of handsomely for them.

Birchtree is near the Worcester Public Market and The Crompton Collective. Do your grandparents a service and offer to meet them and spend half the day together.

Miss Worcester Diner. Great French Toast Menu. So good for breakfast.
Birch tree Bread. Good food and eclectic atmosphere. Sometimes live music.
The Parkway. Love the meatball sandwich.
Breen’s. They say the steak and cheese is to die for.
