Reply to TIL, in film, a clapperboard’s purpose is ensuring proper synchronization of audio and video in post-production. It provides a distinct “clap” along with a visual event for the editor to reference at the start of a scene. by PianoCharged
This is something I've always wondered and never looked into. Thank you. The explanation makes perfect sense. Also explains why some documentary/interview productions i've seen have a guy walk up and do a clap with his hands instead of the slate thing.

Reply to comment by Chemdawg90 in TIL that when Unsolved Mysteries aired a segment on missing child Nyleen Marshall, they were contacted by a man who thought he might have gone to school with Nyleen. This turned out not to be Nyleen, but a different missing child, Monica Bonilla, who had been abducted by her noncustodial parent. by TychaBrahe
Have a Samsung 4k TV and love that TV+ thing. Watch a lot of crappy reality shows and Unsolved Mysteries on it.
