The Batman was too long. Did you know The Batman was too long? I liked The Batman but it was just too long. Every movie is too long these days, especially The Batman. Did you hear that? The Batman is way too long.

Absolutely love Margin Call. Over the years it’s slowly climbed up my list of most favourite movies. Really rewatchable and the dialogue is just exceptional.

So provide sources then. If it’s “all data”, this should be easy.

I don’t know if me and my wife have ever gone more than a couple days without quoting something from Step Brothers.

My fave flick in a couple years but yes, it could’ve been trimmed down a bit.

“Visionary” I’ve heard hundreds of times. I’ve used it myself tons as well. But “a great work of vision” just seems like an oddly constructed praise to me.

Very intriguing but…what the hell does “a great work of vision” actually mean?! I’ve been a paid movie critic for 11 years and have never heard that one before.

…are they trying to make me less excited for this movie? Cause it’s working, annoyingly enough.

That last line has gotta be one of the most succinctly sad and true things I’ve heard in a movie.
As a whole I really dug the flick. I think the biggest problem was that despite all the changes, Del Toro was still stuck with telling a story we’ve all seen a million times, and for the most part the story beats remain the same. Not much he could’ve done, just what happens when adapting something so popular. The songs were also pretty weak for the most part.
But hey, I’d still give it 4/5, so these are nit picks. I’d also hot take (?) and say it’s the third best Del Toro movie.

She was excellent, as was everyone (I honestly think Witherspoons performance is one of the great comic roles of all time).
Also, Election is just about the only movie where text on a poster makes me laugh harder than any spoken line. Whenever I see “Paul Metzler You Betzler!” I lose my shit haha

Holy shit…I knew she barely acted after but didn’t realize she died. Huge shame. She was excellent in this movie.

Yeah I think that’s the answer. It’s to show how no matter how long he’s incarcerated, he will always have a thirst for blood.

I know it’s too long to show to an editing class, but I still think the theatrical and directors cuts should be taught in film school as an example of the importance of editing in telling a story. Green’s character in particular goes from a whiny emo to a tragic heroine.
Phenomenal movie. Also touched my first boob in the theatre to it so it’ll always have a special place in my heart.

Fantastic film. Everything from performances to direction to editing to the script is on all cylinders. Just got lost in the shuffle of being a great crime film in a year of a dozen other great crime films.

Reply to After watching Boss Level and Cop Shop it's absolutely crazy to me studios are not lining up to throw money at Carnahan to direct big blockbuster movies. His action set pieces and choreography are top notch and his scripts recently are just perfect. by herewego199209
He’s one of my faves, yeah. Narc, The Grey, and Smokin Aces are some of the best films of the last 22 years.
He doesn’t always nail it, but I like that you can tell he’s always trying. He swings for the fences in enjoyable ways.
As others have said, he’s also a volatile dude who has burned a lot of bridges. His hero is William Freidken, and if Carnahan had started out the same time as he had, he’d be fine.

I think it helped that Chandon was a stock broker on Wall Street while writing the flick (or was before he wrote it, can’t remember). It adds an authenticity to how they talk, like how every one of the bosses doesn’t understand the technical shit hahaha
