Reply to My oldest American coin turned 100 by cote112
When people used to say, " I wouldn't give one thin dime for that", I think this is what they were talking about. Silver is a much softer metal and coins wore away.

Reply to Drilling into concrete wall questions by Sleepy_C
Something I have done instead of mounting the tv mount into cement was to build a frame the width needed for the mount out of 2 by 4's that went from the floor to the ceiling. I fastened the 2 by 4's to the floor joints above and the bottom just rested on the basement floor. You can box it in and it will cover up all the wires.

2 other words that I used to frequently see were stoa and adit. It's been a while since I've encountered them.

Reply to Why “the Christmas feeling” is more profound than you think - some holiday themed philosophy by Melodic_Antelope6490
I used to try too hard to have that "special" Christmas but was always disappointed and it did not live up to my expectations. The people I wanted to share in my special Christmas had their own agendas and the commercialism became intolerant.
Nowadays I have no expectations and the family made the wise decision long ago to stop with the gift giving except for the kids so no pressures either. A much, much better holiday now.

Reply to Inside the Global Effort to Keep Perfectly Good Food Out of the Dump | Around the world, lawmakers and entrepreneurs are taking steps to tackle two of humanity’s most pressing problems: hunger and climate change. by silence7
I find it disturbing to see how much food is thrown away as any dumpster diver could attest to. How to distribute it safely is an economic and logistic problem that is tough to solve.
