I’ve never noticed at Gallery place but when I’m there it’s usually later at night, like 8pm or later so maybe it’s back to 2 way at that time

Don’t even need to do that, the gates clearly have the capability because there’s a go/no-go indicator. It’s incredibly easy to fix but for some reason WMATA wants it this way
No-Lunch4249 t1_jeb17xc wrote
Bring back one-way fare gates in the busiest and most tourist heavy stations: Union Station, Metro Center, Gallery Place, Smithsonian, etc.
It works in a mostly empty station but somewhere there’s a lot of foot traffic happening, allowing two way traffic causes more problems than it solves

Basement bars were already in trouble and generally a dying breed even before the pandemic too

Reply to comment by [deleted] in The Silver Line to Dulles is a bigger deal than I thought it would be by MrMoustachio55
Yeah if it wasn’t for IAD they never would have extended Metro that far. This is also why all those fantasy metro maps that do things like extend the Orange Line to Annapolis or the Green Line to Laurel, etc are totally bonkers. It’s just not appropriate for the subway and should be handled by moderate frequency but much faster regional rail as you said.
No-Lunch4249 t1_je69l08 wrote
Also something I think a lot of people don’t realize about the silver line: the most recently completed extension was a 10% increase in Metros total track length. It was a massive expansion of the overall system to the point where it’s borderline outside of MetroRail’s scope.

Yeah peak bloom lasts what, 3-5 days? I think we can be okay with 1% of the year having local social media really centering around the cherry blossoms

Holy crap that’s awesome! How was the ride? Obviously we all know the issues the system has now, but also it goes a lot more places than it did in the 70s, how do things stack up today in your opinion vs those early years?

Obvious rage bait
They just want a bunch of people to show up protesting them and trying to get it cancelled so they can say “this is no different from what we want to do to trans people”

I’m not trying to personally attack you, I’m just curious.
I’ve been noticing a lot of similar comments to yours lately, basically “I put your question into ChatGPT and here’s what it said…”
What motivates you as an individual do this?
Again, this isn’t meant as an attack I’m just curious

Bingo. I did this same trip OP is planning last summer for like $30 round trip, but bought the tickets a month or two ahead of time.
You really cannot beat that price, driving you’d pay more for gas and parking. You might find a cheaper bus but the experience will be way worse.
No-Lunch4249 t1_jc6fodd wrote
Reply to Train to Philly Pricing by Beckam4434
No they don’t get cheaper right before
The way Amtrak sales work is they sell the tickets in “buckets” starting with the cheapest price and after a certain amount are sold, they start selling the next “bucket” at a higher price, continually going up in price as more tickets are sold. Once the price goes up into the next bucket, it pretty much never comes back down.
So the longer you wait, the higher the price will be 99 times out of 100.
We’re lucky to live in the region where Amtrak has its absolute hands down best service, but this practice does really make it hard to use them for a last-minute trip.

Yeah right on red is actually a horrible idea anywhere you expect a lot of people to be walking. Drivers are looking at oncoming traffic and not the sidewalk/crosswalk on their other side. Something like 25% 22% of all right turn on red accidents hurt a pedestrian or cyclist
