Without the booze, it ‘s not the same. I always saw the flowers first then did the wine and spirits afterwards.

Except salaries can be considerably lower in Philly. This is probably the REAL reason they can’t get that many qualified people. They don’t pay enough. This is particularly the case for staff at the universities in Philly and city government. City of Philadelphia apparently has lots of vacancies.

Well it depends. Is that 4K take home or gross? The toughest thing is rent. You’ll qualify for a studio in any part of the city but if you want something bigger, then you might need to limit certain neighborhoods or rent a condo or apt. from a private landlord who won’t strictly apply that you need to earn 3x the rent. Otherwise it’s enough. Where would you be working? In Center City? University City?

You wouldn’t consider Nicetown or Strawberry Mansion “bad”neighborhoods? I’m not saying tall the people who live there are bad, that’s not true but they are considered dangerous.

Good luck. This is not going to work. The city allowed the drug trade to thrive for years, somebody is getting rich off of it. They aren’t going to give that up that easily. I also have no sympathy for dealers and that turns me off this candidate.

LOL. You missed the tokens and the paper passes! That was a reality up until a few years ago.

I moved to Philly in 2006 from one of the boroughs of NYC. It was definitely a positive move for me and I did not and do not have a car in Philly. There were lots of taxis plus Septa back then, plus bikes and Philly Car Share and Zipcar. Since 2021 there are no more taxis, so you’ll need to take SEPTA or Uber or Lyft. The car shares (day rentals) seem to have disappeared.
The first time I went into the City Hall subway station it was a shock. Even coming from NYC it was the most dilapidated station I’d ever seen. I did ride the MFL and BSL up until 2020, the pandemic. I’ve ridden them about 2x since Covid without incident, but in terms of sketchiness and cleanliness, they are worse, and junkies abound especially in any underground station. I ride the bus when I can’t walk and regional rail is fine but the schedules have decreased in frequency since Covid for the suburban rail due to decreased ridership, wfh.

You are going to have to move to one of those neighborhoods to avoid, or bordering one for 1k max unless you get a roommate.

Old City can be pretty expensive. I think there is a big difference between the average 20 something and 30 something and what they can afford. I don’t live there but Fishtown seems to attract younger people and is somewhat cheaper than Old City.

Septa needs to up its game for more people to take transit. It will not happen the other way around since people with $ and cars have other options.
