I agree that the Transit app can be very useful, it’s a great concept and I try to use it when I can, but I do have a couple of issues with it.

a) when it comes to navigation I find it’s kind of confusing and I still need to use google maps to make sure I know which lines to get on. This wouldn’t be as much of a problem if I wasn’t new to the area and don’t know my way around, but it would be nice if it was easier to search a location accurately and I could just use the one app.

b) My phone is old and the battery life sucks so having the Transit app using my location the whole time I’m on the bus isn’t really practical - I like that it tells me how many stops are left and I want to be able to use it for that but then I basically have to turn my phone off until I get on the bus to go home because otherwise I won’t have enough battery to make it back. I know this is more of my problem because if I had a newer phone the battery wouldn’t drain as fast but it makes using the app pretty inconvenient for me.

from my experience it was much easier to get a job before moving. My entire application process was online and my interviews were virtual as well. I don’t see any reason why it would be that hard to get a job lined up before you move as long as you tell your potential employer you will definitely relocate upon being offered the job. Then just show any potential landlord the job offer letter. I suppose you could do it the other way around but it just seems a lot more difficult to me. Depending on your line of work there may be cases where you’re correct that it’s easier to find a job after relocating but I think most fields have online systems set up now since the pandemic kind of forced it.

Your friends sound weird. The whole point of a “speakeasy” style place is that it’s not officially advertised, but spread through word of mouth. Telling your friends about them is the whole point. Are you really friends with these people? Do they think you’re a cop or something? Even if they did, as others have pointed out, prohibition is over - there’s no real reason to keep these places secret because there’s no real penalty for them to operate. It kind of seems like your friends just don’t think you’re cool enough to know about these places - I’m not saying that to insult you, but more to point out that maybe you should get better friends - the ones you have sound like they think they’re better than you or something, which isn’t really an attitude I’d want from my friends.
