With lots (and lots) of good music, you almost always have both. Virtually every heavy metal band that I love/follow has great lyrics and amazing music to match (that DOES match, in tone, atmosphere, emotion, etc.,). Taking away/dumbing-down either the lyrics or the music would ruin it for me.

The problem is that tooooooooons of bands have sh!t or trite lyrics, but people love them anyway and try to project meaning or depth onto them, or just ignore them completely and it doesn't take much away. Not my type of band.

Like others are saying, it sounds like you've got a really weird obsession, of the OCD variety, and could possibly get this thing straightened out.
You're also missing out on so, so much good music, including tons of positive and powerful songs that use these topics in their narrative in a positive way, or as something to overcome.

Only peripherally related to your question, and I suspect FAR more frequent, is what I do: I'm a lifelong metalhead, and I simply don't/can`t listen to music with negative, as in morally/ethically, messages (i.e., condoning certain forms of violence, racism, sexism, etc.,). My strong distaste for this sort of think ranges from "eww, that's lame I don't think I like/respect this song/band that much" to "I absolutely won't listen to anymore of these losers".

I'm like that, and it might not be a majority way to listen, but it's not uncommon at all either.

Importantly, I think you get A LOT out of your music/artist that way.
(Disclaimer: Different strokes for different folks and all that. . . )

I have several friends who buy/download entire discographies (sometimes even of swaths of a genre), and they simply don't get around to listening to a lot of it, they often miss out on actually appreciating an *album*, and they simply don't get as "into" a band as listener's like you and I. Which is fine, but it truly is experiencing and imo appreciating the music less.
With all my favorite bands, I know virtually every song on every album. And I do like LOTS of bands, so I really don't feel limited at all. But the best part is the love, appreciating, and connection you make with a band (or person) that you truly know. In many ways I feel like it's similar to having 100 friends versus having 5 really good, close friends. I think we all know which type of person truly knows and appreciates their friends more. . .

Hands-down, absolutely and without any hesitation whatsoever is Betrayal at Krondor's soundtrack. It's majestically epic, and isn't just a great tune or two, but has a *minimum* of 20 fantastic spellbinding tracks, and lots of variations on a couple of the main theme tracks. Unapparelled.

In a distant, distaaaaant second and third would come Castlevania Symphony of the Night and THPSII. Megaman II and III also had great soundtracks. Fallout New Vegas has a very moody, memorable soundtrack as well.
Ocarina of Time has an obviously fantastic soundtrack as well, as does Chronotrigger.
