Way too expensive in both money and political capital. I remember the guy holding out at the old Barclay's center construction site for years until the group just paid him an insane amount of money.

If you try to claim any land as a governing body you'd get protested by any number of "Historical conservationists" groups on top of your political opponents taking the opportunity to call you. Capitalist monster who hates the working class.

On the money side absolutely none of those residents will move out unless the city pays them an unholy amount of money. They know this and the city knows this.

I'm no fan of Robert Moses but you'd have to be delusional to think any city administration could've expanded mass transit during that time.

You have to understand that Robert Moses was a special kind of asshole who despite the controversy still got shit done. He ruthlessly abused city and state powers , colluded with contractors , and ofcourse manipulated public opinion. Master builder isn't a term handed out easily yes he was an absolute tool but he did something few others could pull off in NYC of all places.

For bridge crossings to support trucks they would have to be at certain height and to preserve the current street there would need to be many thats expensive but doable ill admit.

However that 30 minutes to Manhattan pitch doesn't hold up to the reality that is the Hellish Fort Hamilton Gowan merge. Also immediate behind the apartments are mostly houses.

Ocean Parkway is like the Queensblvd of Brooklyn in terms of road fatalities, that is what alluding to regarding the 25 speed limit.

As for the Jewish slant a major throughfair would decimate land value on top of literally slicing the neighborhood in half.

If Ocean parkway becomes Ocean expressway you CANNOT have pedestrian crossings.

Right i should be perfectly satisfied with the absolutely subpar service the MTA provides because its better than literally nothing.

At the same time I get taxed up the ass to enjoy the privilege of said shit service in the richest city in the world.

Amazing 👏

Go to tokyo or even london and see what a world class transit system is really like.

The Subway is shit and it always has been since I was born. It is dirty, unreliable (Especially if you live in the outer boroughs), and inefficient. Since it is the only alternative to driving or biking we are all forced to tolerate it.

I'm happy for you finding the system nice but having used it my whole life then seeing what places like tokyo have? Yeah fuck the subway.

And that's ultimately where we have a problem it ISNT simple.

Building in NY is hella expensive and reality is NO one with any influence or money wants to build that kind of housing. After all who is going to spend possibly billions of dollars to house a population that let's be honest here only about 20% will ultimately be able to take care of themselves. Are tax payers just expected to take care of these increasing number of people for the rest of their lives? What guarantee is there that supporting a system like that wouldn't be a budget nightmare like what the MTA has become.

While I'm on the topic assuming we do somehow build the housing what stops the vast majority of homeless in the country from migrating here to use these new housing? It's a never ending cycle. Please don't say nationalizing that isn't something feasible until atleast another 2 or 4 years.

On Expanding the safety net (Atleast in New York) in an administration that is filled with unqualified and honestly lazy workers is just asking for fraud and abuse. It's not that I don't think it's a bad idea it's just unless it's manned by an experienced and motivated administration it's once again just going to be filled with massive fraud and abuse!

It's 7 in the morning and I'm phone posting but all I'm saying is the answer isn't so simple there are so many prerequisites needed for this.
