Yeah a light year is simply the distance that light travels in a year.

Even if earth and the black hole were heading towards each other at the speed of light (can’t go any faster), it would take hundreds of millions of years to meet in the middle.

If moving at the speed of light (and we’re assuming the movement of the earth is insignificant), it would take, well, 657 million years.
If you didn’t mean light speed travel, we need to know what speed you’re intending.

Yeah definitely don’t think we should be able to find them all

Yes, but it’s said in like a “don’t worry!” way, but clearly we haven’t found them all.

It’s mostly a little ironic to note since they JUST discovered this asteroid that is making a close approach

Reply to comment by Majestic_Pitch_1803 in Couldn’t we land on an asteroid that is passing through our solar system and use that as a vessel for interstellar travel? by [deleted]
If that asteroid has enough velocity to escape orbit, the lander would have to reach that velocity as well. Basically nullifies any gains of landing on it.

Eventually fuel won’t be supplied to the gateway by earth. The goal is for it to be manufactured on the moon.
I believe it’s not just a staging point for lunar missions, but missions to mars and beyond as well.
Its also introduces the possibility to break flight teams up into several smaller landing parties for missions and whatnot.

That’s all fine, but your comment about DNA is not saying the same thing.
It’s a brain-dead comparison. That’s implying I said “our language of math is made up, so math is made up”, which isn’t what I said at all.

Not at all. That is not a proper comparison, as I’m not arguing that math is made up.

Reverse hydro power is an interest battery idea. You build reservoirs and pump water uphill using extra power from wind and solar. When needed you let it flow back through the turbines into the lower reservoir. Power storage without a need for metallic batteries.
I’m all in on nuclear though. It’s the bridge to our green future. Buys us time to figure this all out.

It’s the windiest place on earth outside of Antarctica. It still holds the highest wind speed record not associated with a tropical cyclone or tornado. (It was dethroned by some random meter in the pacific during a storm).
100mph sustained winds is not unexpected on any given winter day.
