They’ll learn that a yellow cab is usually the cheaper option from LaGuardia anyway, especially on a Sunday when prices tend to surge

That’s an estimate from 18 months ago. Rents peaked a full year after that

It’s funny to me that you are blasting CNBC for this report while uncritically accepting a Curbed story that asserts people didn’t come back to the city by citing USPS change of address filings, which are virtually meaningless as a measure of short-term population shifts.
Does anyone who lived through 2020 honestly believe there was not a massive influx of people back into the city in 2021 and 2022? Did you experience what it was like to try to rent an apartment in summer 2021?
Price fixing is always an issue but the idea that surging demand isn’t a major contributing factor here is ludicrous

They charge too much and don’t maintain the bikes. Surely telling people to just steal them will help alleviate both of those issues

Reply to Westchester was one vote away from becoming part of NYC and Brooklyn barely made it by Furschitzengiggels
That’s not correct. The referendum in this article was for the “Town of Westchester” which is part of the modern-day Bronx. Not the same as the area we now know as Westchester County

Damn I didn’t know until reading about it just now that funerals were so ripe for scams.
I guess it makes sense but still… how can you take advantage of someone who is burying a loved one

Costco made $6B last year. I think they’ll survive some poor people sharing memberships to go buy things there

I agree but there’s still a political calculation being made when city council members block projects. Yes they only have to worry about one re-election but it isn’t the end of the line. They’re all gunning for higher office.
I think we’re going to see member deference begin to erode in the coming years. We saw it happen once already with the UES blood center last year. KRJ is facing a primary challenge over the Harlem thing and Tiffany Caban approved Hallets North in what seemed like an acknowledgement that the rest of the council may not have backed her opposition to it

All the major NYC outlets definitely deserve criticism for whiffing on this, but if the Zimmerman campaign did a better job getting this stuff out there we would know about it. No outlet would intentionally spike a story this good

At the very least, there’s enough smoke here that you’d think it would’ve tipped off a news outlet with more resources. Or an interested party who could put it on a newsroom’s radar.
In addition to Zimmerman’s campaign, this whole thing is really a tough look for Newsday, imo

They’re already doing at least one: 55 Broad Street in the financial district. Macklowe also has a huge office to resi conversion going on down there at One Wall Street

My uncle lives in White Plains and you can sometimes hear coyotes howling at night from his backyard. Been that way for years. I suppose it’s not that crazy that some may wander down from Westchester. I still wouldn’t want to come across one
