I don't care much for the stylization. The nosebleeds, faceplants, drooling, dramatic screaming, smirking, and casual pedophilia just don't appeal to me. Obviously not all anime is like this, but I don't feel any motivation to filter them out. Ghost in the Shell was cool though.

I was going to go to Sequoia National Park on Monday, but the flooding and storm warnings changed my mind. Not to mention, I live in a direction that I access the park by the south entrance through a town called Three Rivers, and a landslide has demolished at least one road there.

"Throwing a rod" means that a connecting rod breaks. In this example, the connecting rods are the three green pieces near the bottom connecting the crankshaft (the yellow part) to the pistons (the three orange parts). Everything is moving very slowly here, but in an actual engine, connecting rods can be moving with enough energy to eject them completely through the crankcase (the engine's body), hence the term "throwing."
