I don't understand, my brother is living comfortably in college, he admits that too, he gets decent scholarship so he doesn't need additional money to live there so all the money from home he spends on himself, the people at college don't even bother each other and if you wanna know more the name of the college is IISc bangalore

If you are able to get in one of the best colleges then it is a life of comfort, atleast in India, My brother didn't study for the first 3 years and is still going to germany(internship or thesis i don't remember) with government funding
