I'm running a mongrel pc at home, made from a bunch of random builds over a 2 year period, built about 6 years ago now - basically at the end of a now extinct upgrade path, and planning to do a full ground up build with am5 or 13th gen.
First was planning to do it at the end of last year, then baulked at the prices.
Figured I'd wait a couple of months for the edge to come off the prices, but that didn't happen.
I figure it'll be at least another 6 months before I consider building now.
Prices are just ridiculous, and whilst it was always going to be pricey at the beginning of a new gen, new socket, new ram, etc. It just feels like they're taking the piss.
I'm not desperate to build, so it's no big deal, but I can't help but feel they're playing by covid rules at a time when cost of living is skyrocketing, interest rates are skyrocketing, covid support is ending and people are starting to tighten purse strings - it just feels like a huge mismatch, and they're nowhere near close to even acknowledging it. Like if they just oretent everything it fine, they can keep flogging everything for idiotic prices.

The bribe was to be the printer of the official guide/travel books.
A lot of people don't seem to have read the article and think it's a bombshell, but it's literally a guide book company saying "here's some money, pick us for your printing needs".
Still completely illegal, and it's good they're being investigated and punished, but it's amazing how many redditors suddenly worry about bribery for advertising & publishing contracts when
a) They probably wouldn't give a shit or even notice if it didn't mention the olympics
and
b) It probably happens a lot more often than they think when it comes to smaller contracts outside the public sphere.

They're mentioned in the article as a guide book/travel agency company.

The club paying his salary while watching his performance fall off a cliff, apparently. Presumably also the fans who can read the writing on the wall and know "last season's stats" are now the benchmark, rather than an off year, and he'd be lucky to back it up.

he could, last season, and that was far off his best. That's a massive fall from previous seasons, and it's hard to blame a club for not having faith he could back up that performance when he's a year older.

A world where teams need to blood new talent and give younger players minutes on the pitch, rather than entertain the whims of older players at the end of their career.
Unless he's gotten younger since last season, it's unlikely he'll be as valuable as he was then.

according to this he scored 18 for them during last season (in the regular season, I assume, hence the discrepancy).
The last time he scored fewer than that in a regular season was '06/'07.
He's the same age as me, and I can tell you, regardless of fitness, your body simply takes longer to recover in your late 30's. He's still good, but he's not getting better with each passing season any more, and he's better off as a role model for the younger players than trying to be the main event.

I still think it's interesting that in a race to finish as fast as possible, so much of our speed is determined by mentality rather than just physical ability.
The human mentality of pushing for a target is a hell of a thing.
