State Constitution drives a lot of the differences. Washington entered the Union in the “Progressive Era” so features the will of the people more directly than original States. This is why there are initiatives & referendums every election cycle. If elected politicians are to frightened to act, the people take things into their own hands. See for example how Washington banned indoor smoking when politicians were afraid of the restaurant lobby. Also a minute percentage of Mass-holes out here

Check out the eastern Pierce County town like Frederickson. Lots of Manufacturing jobs out there and cheaper to live, closer to wilderness.
Alternatively look north to Everett and Monroe. Western Washington is reliably blue until you get out of the urban area. So this will be more politically red than a city location. You probably need to look for a job at least 25% more to get a similar standard of living.

GFCI outlets look like regular outlets with a couple of buttons in the middle that say “test” & “reset” When they trip (too many things plugged in that draw too much juice), every single outlet in the line goes out too It happened to me at Thanksgiving. Air fryer going & then plugged in a space heater & pop goes half the kitchen. I found the GFCI on an outside outlet, punched “reset” & all good

Immediately: Turn the thermostat down to 60 or 62 for 8 hours at night, turn down another 6 hours if you leave during the day. Wear socks & slippers & house hoodie around the house & stay busy. Then 66 is warm enough. A heated mattress pad makes you toasty in a cool room. Next: Research hvac contractors & rebates & system choices. Don’t be in too much of a hurry to cut your bills this winter with a new heating system. It could be far more expensive long term to make a hasty decision with the wrong outfit
