Honest question: What kind of sausage do people use for this?

A combo I discovered was a barbecue chicken, bacon, jalapeno, and pineapple pizza. Ticks off some boxes.

I don't quite understand what the reason for a smash burger is versus a regular burger. What's the idea behind it?
