No, unemployment is mean to help people without a job put bread on their table while they get back on their feet. If your income is too low then you may qualify for SNAP benefits

Paying for parking and then a path ticket is less expensive than driving into the city.

The current conditions also come with a price for local residents/ entrepreneurs who work hard and are forced to leave their neighborhoods behind because of lack of opportunities, safety. Yes, there should be help for local business which is what provides balance other than that gentrification will help modernize Newark.

Hopefully it happens soon, activist are only looking for fame because there is absolutely no good for locals by keeping the status quo, those who can afford immediately send their kids to private schools outside the city or move out to provide their heirs better opportunities. Gentrification comes with a price but it offers opportunities and better local schools.

Newark itself has some of the best restaurants in the area for Spanish (*Mompou or ViVo tapas) Portuguese (Sol Mar, Iberia, *Adega Grill)or Brazilian ( *Delicias de Mina’s Steak House, Brazilia Grill). I placed an asterisk on my favorite spots, those are located in the Ironbound section of Newark a safe neighborhood know for its restaurant scene.

The best a town can do to end homeless is stop handling money, very difficult for cities with naive tourists like NYC.

In Newark there are a few failed business that hold the license but lack the creativity to succeed. The government shouldn’t be protecting a few people who have already benefit for years of this liquor license policies. Mom and Pop’s places are failing anyway and it is investors who actually own the license and have the money to back up new restaurants.

Reply to How safe is this area around Newark? Thinking of getting an apartment for a commute to Jersey City by Qwexc
Is a safe area but is mostly comercial, there are apartment buildings opening up right next to Fornos of Spain, the restaurant on the lower right corner of the map (Ironbound) which is also pretty safe and just a couple blocks from the station.

Japanese food may not be the best in Newark, try Hoboken or Jersey City. They have great places. In newark you will find the best Portuguese/ Spanish food and very good Brazilian steak houses.

if people want to depend on cars the they should move to the suburbs, police could easily get their budget out of double parking and other traffic violations

Is about 79k, may sound high but is not enough to afford a 1 bedroom apartment in the city, while administrators receive compensation as high as 10 million annually.
