Reply to Sunbeam Mixmaster served my parents dutifully for 51 years but tonight it succumbed to mashed potatoes. by mwknight
My father has an older Hobart mixer. It was used when my mom moved here in 1964, so it's at least that old.
My mom used it daily until my sister dropped a pipe into the mixer, it jammed, and melted the motor.
I was maybe 12. Learned to rewind the motor. Still runs today as a daily beater about 30 years later.
Do your mixer a favour: next down time, take it apart and fix it for real. Quality tools are meant to be maintained.

Many people agree with you and die of smoke inhalation. Which, funny enough, also increases the risk to others as you become an additional liability.
Opening your door (and the stairwells) can also help compromise the safety of others if those doors don't close behind you.
