We had a big chunky diamond for hardness testing lying around in the material lab at university. No security what so ever. First thing the prof said was, don't bother stealing that diamond it's not worth much :D

even if it was rare. It's a stone. It does nothing aside from being rare.

i was referring to this one specifically. It will never be 'used' for anything meaningful.
