You should look at freecycle.org. They have a number of local groups where you can give stuff away for free.

This is the prudent thing to do. You will arrive late and will probably be jet lagged. So the best course of action is to sleep off that night and then pick up the rental car and hit the road next day when you are fresh.
You people drive on the wrong side of road, so you will need to factor that in as well :)

There is a drop box as well. You can simply drop it in and they send you a receipt after a few days.

Most people in India don't give a rat's ass to the BBC documentary. If anything, it will make people like me vote for Modi for fervently.

It Acela is on your bucket list why not take Acela to Baltimore, spend some time at the Aquarium and take Acela back to MetroPark ? Or perhaps take it down to DC spend some time around Smithsonian and then back up to NJ?
