My prediction: The parents who complained are the same ones who will be shocked in 10-15 years when their kid has a major rebellion to their attitudes and prejudices. I can already hear the "we didn't raise you like this!" arguments.
ETA: Down voters know it's true -- and it's their worst fear 😂

Lol, this was my thought as well! If anything, people who live in areas with more air pollution (such as an urban area) are likely to see the benefit of putting more effort into skincare.

I heard a rumor from another Heyday location that there would be a Heyday coming to J.C...but haven't seen anything certain yet.
There are a few spas in the JC downtown area I've heard good things about and are consistent with their online reviews.

Additionally, after OP's admission I find it pretty interesting that the people who actually have neighborhood tags in this thread (Greenville, Communipaw) are in areas that would be impacted and seem to see the project favorably.

Arguably, the post itself is disingenuous because the title includes the Reddit phrase "ELI5" which is "Explain like I'm 5". Folks have pointed out that some of the concerns OP is raising don't hold water (ex. casting a shadow, preventing connection between two areas, etc.). By doing so, these responses are somewhat providing the explanation: setting aside qualitative reasons, there wasn't a clear-cut quantifiable reason to not approve it.
Using "ELI5" in the title seems like a way to get people commenting with the assumption it would be an informational thread exploring the reasons for and against the building, but...well, you've seen how this thread has played out.

I mean I don't doubt there are people who don't support this, but I think this claim itself needs more support and evidence than what you are providing. For example, there are already neighborhoods in JC that exist with exactly what this sentence describes, so why imply these characteristics are bad in and of themselves without the data to support that claim?
If someone rolls up with a bunch of claims, don't be surprised when the Reddit masses ask: "sauce?"

I saw somewhere in this thread that this development will "block light to a park". Can someone help me understand that claim better? I thought this would be north of Berry Lane Park and the sun moves east to west. When would it block light? Or are there many other things being built currently around that park too?

In theory, it should move pretty fast if the floor is in and drywall is up because plumbing /electrical beneath all that arguably takes the longest while everything on top (shelves, signage) are the final steps.

Agreed, the article did mention that LSP has a lot of land behind a chain link fence that isn't currently used in any form (due to pollution) so a best case scenario I think would be cleaning up and using only that land. Otherwise the park is already great.

Reply to Would you put Choc O Pain, Maman, Antique Bakery, and 2nd Street Bakery in the same category? by BeMadTV
This is where the category "bakery" doesn't really help anything. All bakery indicates here is something like "produces/sells baked goods". But there are major differences that make each unique:
Choc o Pain, as previously mentioned, probably has the strongest loaves of bread and French style pastries.
Maman has good baked goods, but more emphasis on breakfast and coffee drinks compared to the other locations mentioned.
2nd Street bakery is more hearty Italian-inspired doughs and doesn't seem to have baked goods that shine for their technique (such as "laminated" dough as a previous comment said). More deli type options than a basic bakery.
I feel like antique bakery verges into deli territory as well, but is similar to 2nd Street in the style of dough.
They're all bakeries but I would narrow that category by French-inspired bakery vs Italian-inspired bakery.
Affectionate-Buy2539 t1_j5zrd6l wrote
It probably depends, but I would be curious to see what folks say! Personally I see a lot of athleisure but I also see a lot of folks running/walking their dogs and that probably coincides. So it's more about my experience/sample than what "is".

As someone who lived in the City* of Chicago for 18 years, traveling at least 1-2 times a year through MDW and ORD if not more, JC to EWR has always been faster and cheaper via Uber. (Separately, I think the security at EWR is also faster). Not to mention even licensed taxis in Chicago have tried to rip me off in terms of fare.
*Differentiating here from a suburb that happens to be near the airport. City proper.
I think the Chicago comparison is missing info because Chicago covers quite a large area. Vast majority of places in Chicago will be much longer to the airport compared to JC/EWR

It would have been nice to hear where op is coming from because the airport comment sent me. Ever tried living in one of the 5 boroughs and getting to JFK or LGA? (Especially if you don't live in the same borough as the airport)?
I will say JC grew on me after living here, so I generally wonder how effective a quick visit is to judging what living in a place will be like. Or, at least one needs to go into the visit knowing the tips and tricks that people who live there know.

not sure about other neighborhoods but Paulus Hook/The Waterfront/Downtown JC practically everyone has dogs. must be on a leash unless in a designated area (such as a park that allows off leash). restaurants outdoor areas are commonly dog friendly
