It's not as easy as owners just deciding to do a conversion. The article discusses some real challenges that stand in the way. Even buildings with a lot of vacancy still have some long term commercial tenants still on lease, or a company with no experience with conversions may look to sell to someone who does, or zoning changes might be needed first. There's a lot of things that takes time and bog down the process.

We can very much afford what we're putting into Ukraine. Much of that value is the original sticker price of old or used equipment the US will replace anyway. The embarrassment of the Russian military is a huge windfall for the American defense industry. Poland alone tried to order 500 HIMARS which we can't even supply. All the weapons systems we sell will in turn generate billions in service contracts, eventual upgrades, and ammunition purchases that goes right back to the American economy.

Combine all that with neutering the Russian military and strengthening NATO unity; while putting zero American troops in harm's way. This has been the bargain of the century.

The article in its entirely is:

>Britain has called for an overseeing body similar to NATO to ensure security in the Indo-Pacific.

>The chair of the UK’s defence select committee has suggested the AUKUS agreement, a trilateral agreement between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the US that would expand to include India and Japan.

Kinda hard to spot between the torrent of ads, but it's there.

Also, I just don't see India joining up. Despite what the UK is saying, India is not an ally to the west. It has always loudly proclaimed itself a non-aligned nation. At best it would be a situation like Turkey, where they get membership because of geopolitical importance, but don't really give a crap about the interests of their allies.

As someone who has to suffer driving through there occasionally, it sucks for drivers too. The problem is the traffic flow there is way too complex. There's frequent congestion, you're constantly dealing with lane changes, merges, and tight turns. Throw in pedestrians, bike traffic, and the occasional moped. There can be a lot going on at once to divide ones attention.
