Sure, don't think it's desirable to force people to move anyway. And rezoning all of the outer boroughs definitely won't solve the entire problem instantly, either. That said, what's the upside in continuing to make it illegal to meet demand on any given plot of land?

Depends on the city, too. Why are most of Brooklyn and Queens zoned for low-density buildings (i.e., a couple of stories) only, when demand is insanely high?

I think 'Penn south' is considered part of the gateway project, whereas this is just an overhaul of the existing station above the tracks

Nah nothing will ever improve without even trying to hold people accountable for the system they're running. Standards need to be higher here

Too many horrible stations to count in NYC. It's like the city and MTA have collectively forgotten that filthy, disgusting dungeons aren't a normal feature of urban transit networks

I wouldn't call it pointless (given how heavily-used the station is), but we should be getting non-trivial regional rail upgrades along with station renovations for the same price tag.

Being better than the rest of the USA is almost the lowest bar you could possibly set. Mediocre, decaying and filthy infrastructure is not going to keep NYC competitive into the future- we're basically just coasting on successes from generations ago, at this point. It can't (and won't) last

Not perfect, but I'll take it over the miserable dump we have now
edit: the city should be getting a lot more than this for a potentially $10 billion price tag, though. That's the kind of money that gets most cities several new subway lines, HSR stations, etc.

Think those same buildings could have been 10-20 stories in the absence of overly-strict, self-defeating regulations. On some level we’re going to have to get over being allergic to new density and new mid to high-rise construction, if we ever want the city to become remotely affordable again
